The expansiveness of the forest offers excellent opportunities to spot a variety of bird species, including the Sulawesi Dwarf Kingfisher, Green-backed Kingfisher, Lilac-cheeked Kingfisher, Great-billed Kingfisher, and Ruddy Kingfisher. Additionally, there are chances to encounter owl species like the Ochre-bellied Boobook, Sulawesi Scops-Owl, Sulawesi Nightjar, and Great Eared-Nightjar. Other avian species to look out for include parrots, Red-backed Thrush, White-necked Myna, Sulawesi Myna, Purple-winged Roller, Yellow-bellied Malkoha, Grey-sided Flowerpecker, Yellow-sided Flowerpecker, Finch-billed Myna, and the Philippine Megapode. In this area, there's also an opportunity to observe the Ashy Woodpecker and Sulawesi Pygmy Woodpecker. Moreover, visitors may have the privilege of encountering one of the world's smallest primates, the Spectral Tarsier, and witness the presence of remarkable mammals such as the incredible Bear Cuscus and large, habituated groups of Celebes Crested Macaques.
On the following morning, we'll set off early to reach Temboan Hill, a prime location for birding. Here, we'll have the opportunity to spot a variety of bird species, including the Green Imperial Pigeon, Silver-tipped Imperial Pigeon, White-faced Cuckoo-Dove, Sulawesi Hanging Parrot, Sulawesi Dwarf Hornbill, Black-naped Oriole, White-necked Myna, White-bellied Imperial Pigeon, Grey-headed Imperial Pigeon, Barred Rail, Sulawesi Thriller, Brahminy Kite, White-rumped Triller, and more. After our birding session, we'll return to the lodge to rest for a while. In the afternoon, we'll embark on a boat trip through the mangroves, where we'll be on the lookout for the Great-billed Kingfisher, Sacred Kingfisher, Common Kingfisher, Collared Kingfisher, Golden-bellied Gerygone, White-rumped Cuckooshrike, Great-billed Heron, Striated Heron, Pacific Reef Heron, various frigatebirds, Pied Imperial Pigeon, Blue Rock Thrush, and several species of terns. Additionally, we may spot some shorebird migrants such as the Eurasian Whimbrel, Common Sandpiper, and Grey-tailed Tattler.
In the morning, following breakfast, we'll continue our birdwatching expedition at Temboan Hill, aiming to spot any species we might have missed on Days 2 and 3. After lunch and check-out, our journey proceeds with a drive to Tomohon, approximately a 2-hour drive, with birding opportunities along the way. We'll spend the night at a hotel or resort in Tomohon.
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we'll ascend to Mount Mahawu for a full day of birdwatching. Mount Mahawu is recognized as an important bird and biodiversity area. During our visit, we'll be searching for species such as the Scaly-breasted Kingfisher, Crimson-crowned Flowerpecker, Sulphur-bellied Whistler, Citrine Canary Flycatcher, Turquoise Warbling Flycatcher, Sulawesi Blue Flycatcher, Sulawesi Cuckoo-Dove, Buff-banded Rail, Sulawesi Pitta, and more. After birding at Mount Mahawu, we'll enjoy lunch at the Gardenia Restaurant and continue birdwatching in the vicinity. Here, we hope to spot the Sulawesi Myzomela, Sooty-headed Bulbul, Collared Kingfisher, Black-faced Munia, Scaly-breasted Munia, Yellow-sided Flowerpecker, and more.
Early in the morning, after breakfast and check-out, we'll explore the birdlife around Linow Lake. Our observations may include the Oriental Darter, Purple Heron, Wandering Whistling Duck, White-browed Crake, White-breasted Water Hen, Purple Swamphen, Common Moorhen, and more. After lunch, we'll commence a scenic drive to Kotamobagu, which will take approximately 4 hours. Along the way, we'll make a stop at a designated spot to search for the elusive Sulawesi Masked Owl.
Overnight: in Kotamobagu Hotel
Following breakfast, we'll kick off the day early with a drive to Tambun, which will take around 2 hours. Upon arrival, we'll be on the lookout for the Maleo, Sulawesi Serpent Eagle, Black Eagle, Sulawesi Pygmy Hanging Parrot, Ashy Woodpecker, Sulawesi Pygmy Woodpecker, Common Kingfisher, and more. Our breakfast and lunch will be enjoyed at the Maleo Sanctuary. After lunch, we'll head back to Kotamobagu, birding along the way. We'll spend the night at a hotel in Kotamobagu.
After breakfast in the morning, we'll check out of the hotel and make our way back to Manado. Along the route, we may make some stops for birdwatching. Upon arrival in Manado, we'll settle into our hotel for the night.
We'll catch a morning flight from Manado to Ternate. Upon landing, we'll immediately commence our journey by speedboat to Sofifi, a town situated on the west coast of Halmahera.
Morning breakfast will be followed by birdwatching activities, where we'll have the chance to spot species like Blyth’s Hornbill, Ivory-breasted Pitta, North Moluccan Pitta, Moluccan Starling, Moluccan Dwarf Kingfisher, Blue-and-white Kingfisher, Sombre Kingfisher, Moluccan Cuckoo-shrike, Chattering Lory, Scarlet-Breasted Fruit Dove, Drab Whistler, White Cockatoo, Dusky Megapode, Violet-Necked Lory, Moluccan Hanging Parrot, Halmahera Cuckoo-shrike, Goliath Coucal, Long-billed Crow, Blue-capped Fruit Dove, Red-cheeked Parrot, Eclectus Parrot, Gurney’s Eagle, Moluccan Flycatcher, Spectacled Monarch, and Moluccan Golden Bulbul. Additionally, we'll engage in some night birding along the roadside in search of the Halmahera Boobook, Moluccan Scops Owl, Moluccan Owlet-Nightjar, and more. We'll spend the night in Sofifi.
Early in the morning, we'll have another chance to spot the Ternate Pitta at Tolire Lake. After lunch, we'll check out of the hotel and head to the airport for our flight back to Manado.
Following an early morning breakfast and check-out, we'll drive to Sam Ratulangi International Airport to catch your flight to your next destination.
